GOLDEN ABSORBENT GROUND - ACRYLIC PRIMER

Golden Absorbent Ground allows artists to create a porous, paper-like surface on various supports.

Its unique formula provides a high level of absorption when dry. Perfect for ink, watercolours and acrylic paints.

It is an acrylic primer that, once sealed, remains durable and light-stable. However, it is delicate, so additional protection is recommended.

Fluid acrylic paints such as Golden High Flow are ideal for tinting the absorbent ground.

It offers an excellent choice for those who prefer a treated surface over raw canvas, primed canvas, hardboard, wood and other supports, always ensuring the surface is porous for good adhesion.

- Application: It is recommended to apply a first undiluted layer and allow to dry completely (8-12 hours). Subsequently, the second layer should be thinned with 20% water to facilitate application.

- Sealing: To avoid the build-up of dirt and other environmental factors, it is recommended to apply between 2 and 3 layers of Golden GAC 500 mixed with High Flow Medium for adequate protection, followed by a final varnish such as Golden MSA Varnish w/UVLS to provide an additional layer of protection.

- Tips for use in different techniques:

Not recommended for thick painting techniques (such as impasto) unless properly sealed.

To create highly textured surfaces, it can be mixed with moulding paste (Golden Molding Paste) to prevent cracking.

Watercolours work well on absorbent ground without losing their water-soluble properties. However, if you wish to protect the final work, it is advisable to use archival varnishes.

Although applying thick oil directly onto absorbent ground is not recommended, thin glazes can be used after applying several layers of acrylic gesso to protect the support.

To create works with inks, chalks and pastels, these should be tested beforehand to avoid unwanted reactions, such as colour changes when applying the sealant.
