Daniel Smith water mixable oil colours offer the same creamy, buttery feel and rich colour associated with traditional oil paints, but without the toxic fumes of solvents and with the added benefit of easy cleaning of brushes and other painting tools.

They are made with the same fine, vibrant pigments as the classic oil paints, the only difference being the use of water soluble linseed oil to make these paints.

This is a high quality, non-yellowing, alkali-refined linseed oil selected for its uniformity, low acidity and non yellowing qualities.

You can use Daniel Smith's water soluble linseed oil or other water soluble mediums to thin these paints on your palette to retain all their characteristics or use up to 20% water to thin the paints.

If water is used, they will dry more matt.

Available in a range of 43 colours, of which 41 have a lightfastness rating of I (colourfast for over 100 years).

One colour (Hansa Yellow Light) has a lightfastness grade II (colour stable for 100 years) and one colour (Alizarin Crimson) has a lightfastness grade III (colour stable for 50 years).

The range includes a replacement, Alizarin Crimson Permanent, which has excellent lightfastness.

In addition to pigment and binder, each tube has less than 1% additives, which are there to improve the usability and consistency of the paint, and to modify the drying time.

These paints are especially useful for painters who prefer to work in oils, but who do not have a ventilated studio.

They are especially suited to use at home, in schools and outdoors. As they can be used and cleaned with water, there is no need to transport flammable or toxic chemicals when painting with them.

They can be used with traditional paints and oil mediums, although the water solubility of the paints is lost during mixing.
