Brause & Co. was founded in 1850 in Iserlohn (Germany), a region famous for the quality of its steel and the skill of its craftsmen.
The founders, Carl and Friedrich Wilhelm Brause and Carl Bergfeld, took care of the welfare of their employees from the very beginning, at a time when this was not the norm, by providing them with health insurance, which the company maintained until 1986.
Brause initially specialised in the manufacture of needles but expanded production to include spokes for bicycle wheels and calligraphy nibs. Until then, England was the centre of production, but Brause was able to acquire and master the precision necessary to occupy a space in the writing market.
The handcrafted process and experience results in the production of nibs of great flexibility and finesse for writing, calligraphy and decoration. They are made from cold rolled steel and some parts of the process are still made by hand.
